The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Hepatitis Delta Virus (HDV) and Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) in patients chronically infected with Hepatitis B Virus (HBV). The prevalence of anti-HDV (total) and anti-HCV antibodies was investigated in totally 275 patients with chronic hepatitis B or asymptomatic HBV carriers. Of total 275 patients positive for HBsAg, 15 (%5.45) were found to be seropositive for HDV and two (%0.72) seropositive for HCV. Anti-HDV seropositivity was found to be %4.78 (11/230) and %8.8 (4/45) in HBV carriers and chronic hepatitis B, respectively. Two of asymtomatic carriers (%0.86) were seropositive for anti-HCV, but none of chronic hepatitis B patients was seropositive for anti- HCV. It is concluded that HDV and HCV infections should be investigated in patients with chronic hepatitis B.
