Nosocomial infections are serious cause of morbidity and mortality all over the world. One of the microorganisms which easily become resistant against various antibiotics responsible for these infections is Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Carbapenems are suitable antimicrobial agents against infections due to P. aeruginosa. The purpose of this study was to determine the in vitro susceptibility of P. aeruginosa isolates to carbapenems. The antimicrobial susceptibility of 100 nosocomial P. aeruginosa isolates against imipenem (IMP) and meropenem (MEM) was investigated with broth microdilution method. Of the isolates 67% were susceptible to IMP, 60% to MEM. Nineteen percent of the isolates were resistant to IMP and 32% resistant to MEM. As a result, there was no statistically significant difference between the susceptibility to IMP and MEM.
