The increasing antibiotic resistance in MRSA strains has become an important problem in many hospitals. Since resistance against glycopeptide antibiotics, the first choices of treatment in MRSA infections, is encountered, studies to find new therapeutic options have increased in recent years. Quinopristin/dalfopristin (Q/D) and linezolid have been introduced as new alternative therapeuical agents. These two antibiotics inhibit ribosomal protein synthesis. In the present study, we aimed at determining the in vitro susceptibilities of 63 MRSA strains to Q/D and linezolid antibiotics and to determine the type B macrolide-lincosamide-streptogramine (MLSB) resistance. Bacterial isolates were obtained from various clinical samples of hospitalized patients in Gazi University Hospital. We found that all MRSA strains were sensitive to Q/D and linezolid. Thirteen of 63 (20.6%) isolates showed inducible resistance and 32 of 63 (50.8%) showed constitutive MLSB resistance. No resistance was found in 18 of 63 (28.6%) strains. We did not find any strain which was sensitive to clindamycin and resistant to erytomycin and showed inducible resistance (MS phenotype). We think that investigating the resistance patterns prior to the use of MLSB antibiotics is important to achieve therapeutic success in MRSA infections.
