This study was planned to investigate the seropositivity rate of Coxiella burnetii, causative agents of Q Fever, in healthy blood donors living in cattle-dealing areas of the Izmir region. Three hundred and three healthy blood donors without any complaint were included in the study. IgG antibody to C. burnetii phase II antigen was detected by C. burnetii spot indirect immunofluorescent assey kits (bio Mérieux, France). Seropositivity was detected in 119 (39.3 %). The seropositivity rates were 39.5% and 38.3% in men and women, respectively. The highest seropositivity rates were found in the farmers and butchers as 53.3% and in those above 40 years age. Although statistical differences were not observed between the sex and different job groups (p> 0.05), significant difference was detected between different age groups (x2 :8.5, p:0.036). The seropositivity increased with age. The high seropositivity rates reflected that C. burnetii is an imporant infectious agent in the region. It is concluded that in patients with pneumoniae, hepatitis, influenza like symptoms and fever of unknown origin, Q Fever should be considered.
