Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) has a worldwide distribution. The virus is associated with acute infectious mononucleosis, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and Burkitt's lymphoma. So the diagnosis of a EBV infection is crucial. The purpose of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of EBV infection. The prevalence of EBV antibodies was invastigated in 70 patients. Seropositivity was found to be 91.4%. Epstein-Barr Virus VCA IgG, EBV VCA IgM, EBV EBNA IgG, EBV EBNA IgM, EBV EA IgG were found as 82.9%, 10%, 78.6%,15.7% and 24.2%, respectively. It is concluded that there is a high prevalence of EBV infection and the diagnosis of antibodies against major EBV antigens is essential for the distinction of a primary infection from seronegativity and past infection.
