The aim of this study was to determine the MIC value of nitric oxide donor DETA-NO ((Z) - 1 - [N -(2 - aminoethyl) - N - (2 - ammonioethyl) amino] diazen - 1 - ium - 1, 2 - diolate) to 15 Salmonella typhimurium clinical isolates and a standard strain in vitro. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values were assayed with broth microdilution method recommended by NCCLS M7-A2. The MIC values of 14 clinical isolates and standard strain were 2 mg/ml and for one clinical isolate was 1 mg/ml. Although the results indicated that the NO donor DETA-NO was effective on S. typhimurium, can we use NO donors in vivo against intracellular pathogens such as S. typhimurium, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Candida species, etc.?
