Cercopithecine Herpesvirus 1 (B virus) is a simian herpesvirus that is enzootic in species of macaques. This virus rarely causes infections in macaques, but fatal infection in human beings. Like Herpes simplex virus in human beings, B Virus has been shown to remain latent in the trigeminal and spinal ganglia of infected monkeys. B Virus infections occur after biting and scratching or rarely exposure to the contaminated tissues due to the persistance of B virus in saliva of the monkeys.
