The aim of this study was to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility and metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) presence in clinical strains of
Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii resistant to imipenem (IPM). The isolated strains were identified with
standard methods and API 20NE (bioMérieux, France) identification system. The antibiotic susceptibilities of the strains were
investigated using Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method according to CLSI criteria. Nineteen (34.0%) of P. aeruginosa and 5 (20.0%) of
A. baumannii strains were found as imipenem resistant. Metallo-beta-lactamase production was investigated in these imipenem
resistant strains with E-test-MBL (AB Bio Disc, Sweden) strips, and 6 (31.5%) P. aeruginosa and 4 (80.0%) A. baumannii strains
were found to be metallo enzyme producers. Overall, metallo-beta-lactamese productions of all strains were determined as 10.7%
and 16.0%, respectively.
