The aim of this study was to investigate the slime production in Candida strains by three different methods. One hundred-twenty-six Candida strains, causative agents of infection, were included in the study. Sabouraud broth with 8% glucose (SBG), Congo red agar with 8% glucose (CRAG) and tryptic soy broth with 8% glucose (TSBG) were used to determine slime production. In 126 Candida strains the slime production rates by CRAG, TSBG and SBG methods were 56 (44.4%), 50 (39.6%) and 42 (33.3%), respectively. There was no significant statistical difference between the three methods. The CRAG method was evaluated as the method of choice in investigating slime production for being easy and practical.
