Keywords: Antisperm antibody, ELISA, IFA

Antisperm antibodies (ASA) are immunogenic factors that play a role in male and female infertility. The purpose of this study was to compare two methods used to determine ASA. Fourty-six men and 25 women, totally 71 patients, sent from Urology and Gynecology Services of Gaziantep University Medical Faculty and private offices were screened for ASA with Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and indirect immunoflourescence test (IFA). The control group consisted of 19 men and eight women who had babies in the previous one year. In the infertile group with ELISA and IFA ASA rates were 23.9 % and 28.2 % and in the control group 11% and 7.4%, respectively. There was no seropositive woman in the control group. In both tests ASA were detected in high rates in infertile groups compared to the control group. There was no difference between the sensitivies of ELISA and IFA (p>0.05).
