The purpose of this study was to determine the production of siderophores and serum resistance in Klebsiella strains. Of the total 120 strains 80 were obtained from urinary specimens and 40 from various other specimens. Of the 120 Klebsiella isolates, 90 were K. pneumoniae and 30 were K. oxytoca. Aerobactin and enterobactin production was determined by bioassay method. The production of aerobactin was found in 30.8% and enterobactin in 91.7% of the isolates. Serum resistance was positive in 63.3% of the total strains.
