It has been reported that Q Fever is prevalent in livestock population. The aim of this paper was to determine the seroprevalence of Q Fever in subjects dealing with livestock. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Ovakent Town with 5132 inhabitants of Ödemiş, Izmir in June 2003. Of the 135, 96 healthy subjects were randomly taken wıth the prevalance rate of 10%. Blood samples of 96 healthy subjects were taken and tested for the IgG antibodies against Coxiella burnetii phase II antigen by using indirect immunofluorescent antibody (IFA) test with a commercial kit. Seroprevalance of Q Fever was 25% (24) among dairyman group. Out of the 24 subjects 15 were female and 9 were male. IgG seropositivity was found in 4 healthy subjects in 15-20 age group, in 5 healthy subjects in 21-30 age group, in 3 healthy subjects in 31-40 age group, in 4 healthy subjects in 41-50 age group, and in 8 healthy subjects in 51-60 age group. It is concluded that the seroprevalance of Q Fever was high in the study group. Due to its high prevalence in the area, Q Fever should be considered with more attention.
