There is a rapid progress in the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) type 1 infection. In this paper; the pretreatment evaluation of antiretroviral treatment, treatment goals, when to treat, benefits and risks of treatment and combination regimens for the antiretroviral naive patients are reviewed.
