The purpose of this study was to compare the prevalences of HBsAg and anti-HIV1/2 in deferred donors because of promiscuity with those of normal donor population. Ninety-seven deferred donors who attended Ege University Blood Bank in the time interval September 2001- February 2002 were included in the study. Four of them were positive for HBsAg and none of them was positive for anti-HIV1/2. At the same interval 5594 donors were negative for anti-HIV1/2 but 147 were HBsAg positive (2.6%). There was no statistical difference between the two groups (p>0.05). A prospective study with a wide donor population will help to evaluate the donor population in the window period. Thus, we will betray the need for the donor questionnairre and the expediency of donor deferral because of sex with money.
