INVESTIGATION OF SEROPOSITIVITY OF HEPATITIS B VIRUS IN HEALTHCARE WORKERS IN ISPARTA, TÜRKİYE

The aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence and epidemiologic properties of the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) markers in health workers in Isparta, Turkey. The health workers were randomly selected from Süleyman Demirel University Hospital, Isparta State Hospital and 14 village clinics in Isparta. Blood samples were taken from 140 physicians, 231 nurses and 31 laboratory technicians, which make up a number of 402 healthcare workers totally. Sera were studied by Microparticle Enzyme Immunoassay Axsym (Abbott Laboratories) for HBsAg, anti-HBs and anti-HBc total. Among 402 health workers 12 (3%) were found to be carriers, 234 (58.2%) seropositive for anti-HBs due to vaccination and 81 (20.1%) positive for anti-HBs and anti-HBc total. The carriage prevalence was 3.5% among physicians, 3.1% among nurses and zero percent among laboratory technicians.
