Tetanus is a rare disease with a high mortality rate. In serious cases, the control of spasms is not easy. Propophol is an expensive agent that is used for spasm control successfully. A 40 year-old male patient admitted to Emergency Room with generalized muscle spasms was hospitalized. Tracheostomy, tetanus antitoxic serum and diazepam were applied as treatment. Tetanic spasms could not be controlled with 600 mg/day diazepam. Propophol was used with 1 mg/kg/hour dosage after anesthesiology consult-ation. Tetanic spasms stopped after a short period of propophol usage. The patient died on the fifth of hospitalization due to cardiopulmonary arrest. Propophol, as an anesthetic, was found successful in this resistant case to diazepam. Propophol is not the first choice for tetanic spasms, but an alternative of diazepam.
